Photographs from Caerphilly

Hint; you might find that tuning the brightness on your monitor helps you see these pictures at their best. Don't forget to return it to your normal setting later!

You can see larger versions of the pictures (some are not yet available) by following the link on the thumbnail.

Caerphilly County Borough Council came into being in May 1997 when the Welsh Counties and district councils were changed into 'Unitary Authorities'. Caerphilly CBC is basically the area previously covered by the Rhymney Valley District Council which was in Mid Glamorgan and another council, the name of which I've forgotten, in Gwent.

Most of the photographs here are of Caerphilly town itself, but I intend to venture further afield when time and cash permit. In the meantime, enjoy.

The Miners' Hospital (link is to a larger picture and more text) Where I was, eventually, born.

View North into New Tredegar (link is to a larger picture and much more text) New Tredegar is where some of my ancestors lived.

A shed covered in graffiti (link is to a larger picture and more text) Caerphilly's memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales.

A traditional Anglican Church building with daffodils in the churchyard (link is to a larger picture and more text) One of the landmarks of Caerphilly, St Martin's church.

It looks a bit like Castell Coch (link is to two larger pictures and more text) The Caerphilly Visitors Centre is an odd-looking building.

A traditional late Victorian school building (link is to a larger picture and more text) The Twyn School where my mother was first educated.

An old chapel, ruined with a had (link is to a larger picture and more text) The Twyn Community Centre: an old chapel, ruined with a stupid hat.
