I was born and brought up on the outskirts of the old market town of Caerphilly, which is a town of maybe 30,000 residents a few miles North of the Welsh Capital, Cardiff. Wales is a principality within Great Britain in case you didn't know, and Britain is the funny-shaped island just off the coast of France. This picture was taken from a video shot on top of Caerphilly 'Mountain', so lacks a little in the detail department. Sorry.

To the North-West of Caerphilly runs the tiny Aber Valley. Aah - hear that word - "valley". South Wales is famous for its valleys, and the Aber Valley is one of the smallest. It has just two villages, Abertridwr and Senghenydd. When I left my parents' house I moved a mile and a half up the valley and lived in Abertridwr.
To describe Caerphilly, Abertridwr and Senghenydd in my words alone would not give you much of a feeling for them, so I have devised two schemes. The first is the
Here you will find a small collection of my photographs of the town, together with a few descriptive paragraphs. The thumbnail gallery contains links to them all. The index page also has links to other Caerphilly and Castle related sites.
Next is the totally amazing
First added to this site in January 1997, it has been expanding gradually ever since. In essence, the Virtual Tour is a photographic walk-through of Abertridwr and Senghenydd. Most of the major items of interest are covered, and others are being added all the time.
Each page is linked to one or more others in much the same way that locations are linked in an adventure game. This is an adventure game with a map provided, so there are two main ways to take the tour, either by taking the complete walk-through, or by going to the map pages and choosing a particular location of interest.
Either way, please go to the Start Page for more information and some launching-off points.
There are a few links on the Caerphilly Index Page related to Caerphilly and the Castle. Here are some others about other things...
Cwmaber School has an interesting internet site which is part of the BT Orwell 1000 project. Clicking on the first link will take you straight to the Cwmaber page. If you navigate there through the second link you get to see it in a nasty little frame...
St Cenydd School also has a web site, put together by some sixth-formers. Lots of graphics, but definitely worth a look.
Chris O'Neil's Merthyr pages are nice and simple, full of useful information, and totally won't benefit from downloading MSIE as suggested on the front page.
David Harris' excellent photographs and text about Bedwas Nagivation Colliery - well worth a browse.
