Martin Angove's Utterly Pointless tour of the Aber Valley

Coronation Terrace

Another view across the valley, this time showing the sawmills and Ferris' garage

At the beninning of the century, looking down from this vantage point at the start of Coronation Terrace, you would have been looking down on the mine. It sat on the flat area where the sawmill now resides. On the lower area where there is now a bus garage, the coal trains were loaded. The two pits, according to the maps, are just to the left and the right of the main building in the sawmill. That's a bit odd, as everyone knows that those hundreds of lorries that brought stone into the valley during the late 1970s were tipping it down the pits, but I saw them tipping in the area just to the right of the bus garage.
