Martin Angove's Utterly Pointless tour of the Aber Valley

The memorial garden on the cycle trail

A picture of a pit wagon

The railway through the valley was finally dismantled when the Windsor was closed. The route was turned into a cycle track which at first went only as far as Abertridwr. This is where it ended; a garden area with (vandalised) seats and two memorials to the mining history of the valley. This is a scene depicting a mine tram coming fully laden out of a very small tunnel. It misses the mark on two points. Firstly, the mines in this valley were both deep mines not drift, and secondly the enquiry into the 1913 explosion at the Universal found that overladen trams were a major cause of the dust that made the explosion so devastating.
