Martin Angove's Utterly Pointless tour of the Aber Valley

Bronmynydd

My house at Bronmynydd, and the TV mast in the background

I couldn't get away without visiting my humble abode. Well, what used to be my humble abode until I was married in August 2000. Now that someone else is living there I won't identify the exact house, but it's one of those in the picture.

One wierd thing about the house was the lousy television reception. If you look very carefully, you can see a mast on the hill behind the houses. This is the transmitter for the Aber Valley, but it is impossible to receive it in the house which is perhaps a quarter of a mile away in a straight line. As you will note, all aerials point off East, to the Machen transmitter which, despite being behind a bit of hill from here, still gives a reasonable picture. Not on my aerial though, and after this picture was taken I had a new one installed, together with an FM 3-element which didn't do a huge amount unfortunately.
