The first shop you meet (apart from a very small shop back in Graigyfedw) is this one. It is also Abertridwr's largest shop. In December 1996 when I first took photographs for this tour, the shop was a Costcutter. The old photograph below is presented here for comparisons. In a distant memory I vaguely remember it as a Co-Op. Presumably it was opened as such. I've just been looking at differences - there are quite a lot of minor ones! How many can you spot?

Opposite the shop, diagonal to the road (the white building in the pictures), are some newly converted flats (well, newly converted in 1997!). They were the police houses until a few years ago.
Thomas Street continues West, and Ilan Road leads off South between the shop and the flats. There is another road leading North, but it doesn't lead anywhere exciting... though I have now (2003) added a tour section up there!
